The tow truck operator will charge a towing fee and a storage fee for the time the vehicle is in his yard. If you believe that the amount you have been charged is unreasonable, you may take a case to the Dispute Tribunal (see chapter “The Dispute Tribunal”). A number of people have successfully challenged towing charges in this way. It may be useful to know the typical rates charged by other local trailer operators in order to make a comparison.
A wheel lift crane has a boom that extends below the front wheels and lifts the nose or rear of the car and allows the car to drag behind the crane safely. Therefore, if you arrive at the scene while they are preparing to tow your vehicle and you can get on it, they will not be able to tow you.
